Aboriginal Community Projects
Established in 2003, the Ropes Creek Landcare Group was the first aboriginal landcare group in the catchment.
The Hawkesbury Nepean CMA is working to involve the Aboriginal community in the catchment in meaningful and active natural resource management.
The CMA's Aboriginal community support team have been developing programs to provide training in natural resource management for the Aboriginal community as well as assisting the community with cultural heritage protection. In 2006, the team established four new training programs in the catchment with:
The training program is a partnership between the indigenous organisations, the CMA, TAFE, NSW Department of Environment and Conservation and Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to provide qualifications in Conservation and Land Management (Certificate II and III) - specialising in indigenous land management. The team also is helping indigenous landholders to prepare funding applications, provide training projects assist to identify and map culturally significant elements of the landscape. |
