Lower Coxs River Subcatchment

Almost all of the Lower Coxs subcatchment is within the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) ‘Special Area' which is protected drinking water catchment and therefore no formal assessment was made on any of these reaches as they are considered in near intact condition.

The major rivers are the Lower Coxs River, Kedumba River and Cedar Creek, with the upper sections of the latter two falling within the Blue Mountains National Park, while the lower sections are in the Warragamba Special Area. It is a remote area of sandstone gorges and it is managed primarily for conservation and water quality.

Historic clearing around the Kedumba crossing area has had some impact on the associated reach, however it now supports dense vegetation having been allowed to recover.

Relatively short sections of the headwaters of tributaries such as the Kedumba River are under pressure from the impacts of urban development, such as sediment and nutrient input and weed invasion into bushland, in the township areas of Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls.

There is significant community interest in managing the threats in the urbanised headwater areas of the Kedumba River.
