Upper Wollondilly River Subcatchment
The Upper Wollondilly subcatchment contains the highest point in the Hawkesbury Nepean catchment, and is located adjacent to the westward flowing Lachlan River subcatchment of the Murray Darling Basin.
There are no reserved lands in the subcatchment. Much of the land in this subcatchment has been historically cleared of its riparian and floodplain vegetation for a significant grazing industry and, more recently, for rural-residential development. The lower reaches near Goulburn are more severely impacted by land use activities than the upper reaches. There are two reservoirs within the subcatchment: Pejar Dam on the Upper Wollondilly River and Sooley Dam on the Fenwicks/Sooley River. There are also a number of weirs including Rossi and Marsden Weirs. These reservoirs and weirs provide drinking water to the township of Goulburn. There is a significant willow threat, particularly on the Fenwicks/Sooley River and some pockets of Serrated Tussock are emerging. There is a high level of community based environment activity in this subcatchment. |
