The Valley Land Care Group

Nearest towns: Lower Portland

The Valley Centre was founded in 1992.

The group purchased 170 acres at Lower Portland to regenerate, and as an education facility. The organisation is run by a handful of volunteers dedicated to making a difference to our environment and the education of children.

Streamwatch will enable children to learn about healthy streams, what species inhabit them and the sorts of tests that are required to monitor water quality. Application is under way to obtain a license for a walk-through bird aviary and small animal enclosure. This will enable children to observe native animals in their natural environment.

Long Term Vision:

  • To provide a preserved and protected environment for flora and fauna;

  • Establish an environmental education conference centre and accommodation facilities;

  • Promote public awareness of conservation, research, and endangered species.

  • There will be great emphasis placed on assisting teenagers build self-esteem.
