The Willow Warriors Landcare group is committed to helping land owners and land managers eradicate invasive willow species from rivers in South Eastern Australia.

In the main our activities involve whitewater rafting, canoeing or bushwalking and mapping or treating willows in remote areas.

Projects involve:

  • mapping willows to provide information to plan and budget for willow control programs

  • treating willows in isolated sections of rivers where the volunteer time spent travelling to and treating isolated willows can provide a more cost effective method of treating the willows to contract labour

  • undertaking follow-up monitoring and treatment where willow control programs have removed the bulk of the infestation

  • providing volunteer contribution and demonstrating community interest also helps to foster the implementation of riverbank restoration projects.

Current projects:

  • Mapping and Treating Black Willows and planting riparian vegetation along the Grose River

  • Treating willows and other weeds on Clarks Island in the Hawkesbury River

  • Mapping and Treating Crack and Pussy Willow along the Wingecarribee River.

  • Assisting Friends of the Colo in monitoring the Colo River Catchment for re-infestation of Black and Crack Willow

  • Assisting the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment Coordinating Committee by Mapping willows along the upper Murrumbidgee River and upper Shoalhaven River.
