Soil and Land Targets

The following Catchment Condition (CT) and Management Targets (MT) were developed for the Soil and Land theme:

State-wide targets: Improving soil condition and increasing area of land that is managed within its capability

CT SL1 Soil condition: Improving soil condition including reducing erosions and salinity

MT SL 1-1 Soil erosion: Protecting 20 000 ha from soil erosion through soil conservation works such as fencing, gully control structures and revegetation

MT SL 1-2 Dry land salinity: Initially treating and/or fencing 200 ha of saline discharge sites; then identifying recharge sites in priority subcatchments and treated 2400 ha of recharge areas

MT SL 1-3 Acid soils: In non-acidic soils, reducing the rate of induced soil acidification due to agricultural practices

MT SL 1-4 Acid sulphate soils: Not increasing area affected by acid sulphate soils.

CT SL2 Rural land capability: Increasing area of non-urban land managed within its capability

MT SL 2-1 Management according to rural land capability: Managing an additional 20 000 ha of agricultural land according to its rural land capability

MT SL 2-2 Large/commercial farm management: Increasing the number of properties being managed through a   whole-farm management system

MT SL 2-3 Small/non-commercial farm management:  Increasing the number of rural residential and smaller area landholders (less than 100 ha) attending management training for rural residential block and small farm management
