How the CAP was developed

The Catchment Action Plan builds on the exisiting Catchment Blueprints, River Health Strategy work and advice from "Theme Teams" established to inform the CAP development.

1. Catchment Blueprints

The CAP builds on the community participation which led to the development of the two blueprints for the Hawkesbury Nepean catchment (the Warragamba Blueprint and the Hawkesbury Lower Nepean Blueprint) and the community panels to develop the Hawkesbury Nepean River Health Strategy.

The Natural Resource Commission's recommendations on statewide targets have also guided the development of the CAP.

2. Advice from Theme Teams

Theme teams, or technical working groups, were formed for the main themes of the CAP:

  • Community
  • River Health
  • Biodiversity
  • Soil and Land
  • Estuary, coastal and marine

These ‘theme teams' were comprised of key peak industry and community groups, local and state government nominees and CMA Directors and staff . These teams helped develop:

  • draft Resource Condition Targets - the changes we want to achieve in the environment,
  • Management Action Targets - the level of activities we aim to undertake, and
  • Priority Actions - the activities that will best help us to achieve the targets for the CAP.
