Partnership Projects (Biodiversity)


The Hawkesbury Nepean CMA continues to work with a range of partners to invest in biodiversity projects managed by partner organisations under contract to the CMA.

In 2006/07 this included investing $2.3 million in 16 biodiversity projects. A number of these projects received funding under the Regional NHT Competitive bid and the Hawkesbury-Nepean CMA took the lead management role in a number of projects across multiple CMA regions.

Habitat Management and Rehabilitation Actions for the Endangered Broad-headed Snake (DECC)

Select pilot sites for habitat restoration. Develop and trial habitat rehabilitation and monitor restored sites. Undertaken site protection works.

Green and Golden Bell Frog Recovery (DECC)

At key population sites, prepared plans of management where they do not already exist, then target threat abatement and on-ground activities.

Grey-headed Flying-foxes In Orchards (DPI/DECC)

Grey-headed Flying-foxes are threatened (GHFF) but also cause damage to fruit crops. This project aims to accurately measure and map GHFF damage over two seasons and develop a plan to mitigate damage including the use of non-lethal methods.

Implementation of National Regent Honeyeater Recovery Plan 2004-2008 (DECC)

Ensure viability of 3 breeding areas of Regent Honeyeater, including protecting and restoring habitat. Undertake monitoring of birds.

Strategic Fox Control On Privately-Managed Lands For The Conservation Of Biodiversity Under The NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan (DECC)

This project builds on existing fox control and monitoring programmes undertaken by NSW state government agencies) at Fox TAP priority sites by expanding fox control on adjacent private lands.

Threatened Species: Regent Honeyeater Recovery in the Capertee Valley (Birds Australia)

Two-thirds of the endangered Regent-Honeyeaters use Capertee Valley as their breeding area. This project continues efforts over the last 10+ years to undertake regeneration to provide habitat.

In 2006 - 08, the Department of Environment and Conservation's Cumberland Plain Landholder Incentives project will invest $986,000 over two years to private landholders to protect priority vegetation on the Cumberland Plain. Funding has been provided jointly through the Hawkesbury Nepean CMA and the Sydney Metropolitan CMA.
